The Price is Wrong: The Brands Who Are Getting it Right

There are always two sides to every story and while we're aware that lots of brands are flexing their over-charging muscles, some of them have realised that it's a very good PR move to actually make the effort to reduce prices.  We appreciate it, like.

One of the things Slendertone's PR gal was keen to get across to me when she took me through their new Face gadget was not just the R&D and proven results. Nope, she made a point of letting me know that they'd decided on a £300/€300 tag for it, which I thought was a very smart decision, especially for something so pricey.

We had comments in Tuesday's post with regard to Tesco. Tina said "Everyday things like shampoos, hairspray etc are quite reasonable in Tesco since their recent price drop. They're often about 40% cheaper than in Boots, so even if you got the Boots points you’d still save loads buying in Tesco. They stock most the same brands as Boots now as well." Duly noted. I've contacted Tesco to ask them if they can give us the official word on this.

I've also been in touch with Procter and Gamble's PR with regard to Olay, Max Factor and Aussie, as I had heard that these brands were adjusting prices to bring them into line for the Irish market. More on that when I hear back.

Another brand I'd like to tip the nod to is Liz Earle. While my original post was really to do with brands who sell in-store and Liz Earle uses web or phone-based selling models more so than retailing in physical locations, the prices on their UK and Irish sites compare favourably.  Reader Aido said "just on one positive note - The Liz Earle range in Wilde and Green in Milltown has a fair currency conversion. Her new fragrance is £39.50 online and is €45 in Milltown."

And lastly, Debenhams waded into the numbers game last week with the news that they were dropping their prices on cosmetics  by 10%. Ok, it's not a lot, but it is something.
