One Perfect Doppelgänger for a Hard-To-Get Nail Varnish

By Lynnie | July 16 2009 | 19 Comments

Can’t get yer paws on a bottle of Revlon’s “One Perfect Coral”, €8.25, nail varnish? Well, I’m not surprised – there’s been a run on this particular shade in stockists up and down the country. Methinks Dublinista, Twinkletoes, Baby In A Corner and Cathyfly been stocking up!

But panic not, my pretties, because I’ve found a dead ringer replacement for it.

Rimmel’s “Coral Romance”, €5.55, is so exactly identical, the two could have been poured from the same paint pot and just seperated at birth. And don’t let the fact that the Revlon appears to be more of a tangerine hue than the Rimmel in the bottle fool you – side-by-side on nails (and even on white paper – well, I had to be sure!) it’s impossible for the naked eye to tell them apart.

I’m off to buy another bottle of the Rimmel offering before it feckin’ sells out, too…

awh a mention! you miss nothing! yeah i like this shade but in belfast i saw another paler coral which I might get (i already had a full basket of stuff and couldn’t justify any more!)

I have the rimmel coral on my nails at the moment – I love it and have had loads of compliments about it! Very summery shade – i nearly prefer it to my usual summer fave – hot pink! Makes me look tanned too which is always good :-)

i have the rimmel 1, its lovely!!I can’t really justify more than 7 euro on nail varnsih, yet I’ll fork out 40 for bronzer!!

I do love a good practical experiment.

I bought the rimmel one last week as i got tired of looking for the revlon version…it’s so pretty-ful :)

I managed to get the One Perfect Coral – didn’t expect it to be so highly pigmented though – you can see my footsies coming a mile off! I’m almost a bit self-conscious (or foot-conscious?) when I wear it.

It’s a bit pricier alright but the bottle is massive I have to say. You’d be years using it up. Only one coat and it’s perfect too.

    excellent detective work, Sgt Lynnie

I know what it’s like to get hooked on a nail polish color, then not be able to find it! I used to have a collection of about 50 nail polishes! Now I look for those formaldehyde and toulene (VERY yucky chemicals) free! Believe it or not, one really cheap brand, Sinful Colors (I buy it at Walgreens), does not have these toxic ingredients. Do you guys have this brand in Ireland? I am in Florida.

  • Glamazon says:

Whaaaattt? I bought a Rimmel varnish recently in Tangerine something and it was around €11 and it looks like the same bottle!! Ripped off again :(

Chanel’s Rouge Noir and Estee Lauder’s Black Berry are the exact same colour on as well…can’t tell the difference. Really annoying when you only discover after buying!

I tried the Rimmel one on while doing my Tesco shopping last night. Needed a red so got Double Decker Red but will go back for Coral next week ;)

  • Glamazon says:

Hi Robin. I haven’t heard of Sinful Colors so not sure if its here in Ireland. Butter London are a ‘3 free’ brand as well… no formaldehyde, toulene or DBP and I think they are an American brand? Probably much cheaper your side of the pond?

I love, love, love this colour ! I have an avon version it’s called coral beat and it’s only gorge ! Lasts ages as well without chipping or anything….love nail varnishes and anything to do with nails !

  • Babaduck says:

Coral is such an awful colour on me – my sister actually laughed at my nails the other day, so I’m giving her the bottle!

  • LouLaBelles says:

I bought the Rimmel corral romance few weeks ago, nice colour!

  • GirlFriday says:

Have the Revlon “One True Coral” and onto week two without any sign of a chip. Don’t think Rimmel compares in quality but then for a summer colour maybe it doesn’t matter too much. Though do agree its very bright, haven’t risked it on my finger nails yet but with the article on summer bright nail varnishes suitable for the office maybe I’ll give it a try.

There’s a Mavala coral – either Ankara or Marrakech – that looks okay on the palely pale amongst us. Some true corals are too much for me but this looks really good.

I have the red that Lily Cole is wearing in their ads. I bought it as a cheap replacement to an OPI nail varnish I loved, loved so much that it’s no longer with us!! But the Rimmel stuff is blooming brilliant, chips less than the OPI and the brush? Ahh the brush, I think I’m in love I have difficulty using other brushes, nice one Rimmel you’ve got me hooked!

  • miffyonline says:

Robin, I wish we had Sinful Colors here. THe online swatches look amazing, great range at great prices. But sadly we can just wish! Most European brands are *I think* Big-3-free. I get most of my nail polishes from U.S-based etailers so I opt for the B3F brands where possible.

  • Aoife says:

You should apply them both and take pictures. something for us to judge the colours by!
