It’s not fair and it’s really not ok. Have you had to bin?

My expensive eye cream mistake and Bunnybuns sudden allergy to her beloved Clinique last week got me to thinking.

How often have you thrown something away, or pushed it to the back of the bathroom cabinets to moulder, for one reason or another? If you’re like me, then you’ve probably done this quite a few times. It’s so frustrating when this happens and such a flippin waste of money. And it happens far more times than it should.
So tell us – have you ever had to bin?

Shame we can’t tick multiple answers – I would definitely go for both 1 and 3! It’s always the most expensive products that disappoint me the most. If I spend a fiver on something, it doesn’t hurt quite as much as when I’ve parted with fifty quid, does it! :(

  • Princess Lisa says:

Mario Badescu Silver Powder – useless and messy
Mario Badescu Healing Cream – useless and smelly
Lancome Huile Douceur – awful, gave me spots all over my forehead

Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation – dried out my skin (combo)
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Fundation – highlighted all my pores, looked like I had dots of foundations all over my nose
    Chanel Pro Lumiere – Ditto
Make Up Forever HD Foundation – Ditto

Guinot Facewash for Combination/oily skin – dried out my skin

still, on the plus side I have loadsa products which I loved first time! :-)

Spent a small fortune on loads of Dermalogica stuff October last year as my skin breaks out really really badly in the winter. From October – Feb every year its the same. Had the face mapping done and the girl reccomended I use about 4/5 different products and that it would clear my skin up in about 6 weeks. I did exactly what I was told to do religiously every day.
By New Years Eve I had a massive rash on my neck, my skin had never looked worse covered in spots where I have never had them before, dry skin which I have never suffered from and it was painful. Binned all of it and bought a Neutrogina facial wash & Moisturiser for next to nothing and my skin never looked better. Madness…

I’ve been using Dermalogica products for oily/combination skin for the last 3 years or so and have been suffering from regular break-outs. Considering how expensive and well known of a brand it is, I didn’t even consider a possibility that it could be the cause of all my skin problems! So there I went and tried an organic moisturiser and cleanser and my skin has never looked better. I just wish I didn’t spend hundreds of €’s on useless Dermalogica and tried something else earlier…

yes, I should have done the ticking multiple answers on this one! I would be 1 and 3 too

  • Gingerrama says:

I’d be 1 and 3 too. Went for 1, as main reason for chucking stuff. I’m not going to make a list as it would be very long, and surely that’s what confession is for?

I don’t always chuck stuff though: also swap or give away. Often makes friends happy. Plus women’s shelters and charities, collecting clothes and new/lightly-used cosmetic stuff for women esp. going to job interviews and back into the world after domestic abuse, illness, trauma, and prison. I’d encourage this – they always need stuff, and it means it’s not a waste if it’s still useful to somebody.

OK, not giving away something that made you really ill, though …

Kerr, was that the medibac range? my skin had a really bad reaction to that also. peeling red raw skin and tiny whiteheads everywhere – like there was a tiny whitehead in every pore.

  • Tiddles says:

I very rarely bin things – but I am a bold one for going out and buying other similar things and ending up with a pile at the bottom of my cabinet that’s had like…a month’s use! Haha

  • ita says:

candi did you return the products to the salon?

  • dressjunkie says:

I’m currently in this quandry with my quite expensive Liz Earle offerings *hovers over bin*

  • sarah says:

dressjunkie, I’ll gladly relieve you of liz earle goods if you’re gonna bin
them.:-P.. haven;t been disappointed yet with any of the products, love the smell
    and texture.

  • Mise says:

I never react to ANYTHING, but came out in huge red itchy lumps all over my legs and back after using Avon’s shea butter body cream. The gas thing was that all of their products are supposed to be hypo-allergenic!

  • penny says:

^ Liz Earle isn’t working for you?

I’ve chucked loads of Dermalogica stuff in the past – just didn’t work for me at all. Also, Moonbeam & Hollywood Glo by Benefit which gave me spots – quite a few of their highlighters don’t work on me. Chucked the Neutrogena Wave too – does awful things to my skin.

  • Ker says:

Candi – it wasnt the medi bac, the beautician said that would have been too harsh for my skin, can only imagine what would have happened if I had used it if the regular stuff did that to my skin. I was using the Essential Cleansing Solution, the mutiactive toner, active moist and every second day the daily microfoliant.

  • Lenuska says:

I very rarely react badly to anythink, but I remember bining some La Roche Possay green cream that was suppose to relieve redness and gave me spots instead. Now I seem to have problem with Soap & Glory Slimwear as its causing little bumps all over my tights. Its the only
thing that I started using recently, so it must be it. I am using lots of their stuff and everything else seem to be fine, just this one……

  • MontyC says:

I very rarely bin stuff as it’s rare enough that I need to do it. I try avoid that if at all possible.

I prefer to swap the stuff or give it away.

  • tina says:

    I’d be 1 and 3, too!

  • Zie says:

    I’d be a 1 and 3 person too.

I seem to get an allergic reaction to any of the Garnier Fructis hair care products, anything with really fruity contents. Also the Origins Modern Friction face scrub seems to be giving me break outs.

I haven’t binned it yet, but I’d say it’s only a matter of time.

  • cailín says:

  • Ita says:

i be tempted to dump some of the bobbi brown makeup i have, i have the black gel liner used once, i look like a panda with it

  • baby in a corner says:

Princess Lisa, its funny I’ve had that problem with foundations – highlighting pores but never with Giorgio Armani LS or chanel pro lumiere both which I like. do you use a mattifying moisturiser or something?
