Bord Gais rang up last week.”Your boiler is due a service. Do you want to book in?”
“Sure” I said (not really wanting to pay to get the feckin boiler serviced but knowing that I have to.)
We had a bit of a chat then about the nip in the air and other related topics. “I just put on the heating this morning for the first time this year” sez I.
“I did myself too” sez Bord Gais man. “Well you know, I wouldn’t have bothered but sure I knew the wife would be down the stairs and she feels the cold. You know what women are like”.
“I do indeed” I agreed.
But ever since the damn radiators have gone on I’ve noticed my skin drying out. Even my hands are getting dry and crinkly. And the heating’s only been back on a couple of weeks.
We had a madly eccentric teacher in secondary school who used to bring a bowl of water into every class with her when the radiators were on. “To put moisture back into the air darlings” she would tell us. “Good for the skin”
We used to snicker at the time, but you know, she was right. I’m seriously considering putting bowls of water beside the radiators. Anyone else do this?
