Lip Balm Anonymous: but do we really want to ditch the habit?

By Aisling | November 6 2008 | 71 Comments

Everyone knows that the use of lip balm is an addictive habit.

In the past lots of you have confessed to having five… six… seven…twenty on the go at any one time. In the car, in handbags, in every coat pocket and in the desk drawer at work.

Panic can set in if a situation occurs where no lip balm is available.

Now here’s my take. Lip balm moisturises your lips. Without it we’d have dry chapped, cracked bleeding lips – no matter what the nay sayers may have you believe. And lip balm is cheap. Unless you go for the Creme de la Mer and if you do sure you’re not on this planet anyway.

So what’s the problem? You could have an addiction to gambling, alcohol, drugs – but lipbalm?

Eh. Big deal. Go for it.

I ashamedly use vaseline but I’m not sure it makes a difference…..I want to change !! Might try the yes to carrots one it seems to be getting good reviews….any other suggestions gratefully received !

but there’s lipbalm and there’s lipbalm – anything petroleum based will dry lips out so I like beeswax based ones. I’m using yes to carrots at the moment and really liking it.

Kirstie – it’s true that Vaseline isn’t a strictly speaking of the genus lipbalm but it’s used as such by most people

I obviously have loads of different ones, as they are so fun and cheap to buy… But my favourite lipbalm EVER is one by this Polish cheapy company, sold in Polish pharmacies: Tisane. It’s beeswax based and has got honey and herbal essential oils in it and believe me, it is THE business.
I should be on a quest to bring it to the UK and Ireland; for me there’s nothing that would come even close to this.

Hehe Rick – any excuse to have a good old natter about lip balm in the winter!

it was the bodyshop ones that got me addicted when i was about 12.
