Take It Off Baby, For Me

Yiz were chattin’ in blather about face wipes yesterday. These things are like the scourge of the devil – they seem to mush your makeup round your face, and you’ll never convince me that something that gets that grubby is leaving your face cleansed as well as toned and moisturised. I always end up using about twenty of them and I try to restrict that usage to when I’m utterly pissed or when I’m away, and don’t really have that much room for all my cosmetic ephemera in my case, what with needing to pack 5 pairs of shoes for a 3 night stay etc.

But all my reservations about them aside, I still keep buying wipes. I think most of us do. We’ve blogged about them before and Olay Daily Facials Express were the ones I think I liked the most out of a pretty bad lot at the time.

Since then I’ve bought No7 Quick Thinking wipes a couple of times. Despite the dubious claim that they’re a 4 in 1 that’ll cleanse, tone, remove eye makeup AND moisturise, these are pretty decent. The packaging is thoughtful too – I shagging hate that peely up / sticky down bit on other wipes that invariably only peels up, leaving you with with a Sahara desert of uselessness after a week or so. These lads come with a proper clicky plastic closure, so you know they’re not going to dry out.

Cleansing wise I haven’t noticed a huge amount of difference between them and a cheaper brand, but they win points on the fact you will get to the end of the packet and the last wipe will be pretty much as damp as the first. And the claim about eye make up removal? Well, to be fair I’d never write off a cleanser that wasn’t the best at taking this stuff off anyway – because I think you do need a specialist product, especially for waterproof mascara. So there’s no criticism from me on that front.

And what do the rest of you use? Olay? Simple? Clinique? Boots own brand? Something else new and fancy? Tell us your greats and of course your hates in a comment.

These are the ones I use for taking off makeup when I go straight from work to gym. It’s handy as well because quite often in Boots you get given a No7 voucher for €7.50 – which is exactly the price of these! So I never actually have to buy these wipes, just use up my vouchers on them :)

yeah the no 7 ones are grand, i always pick them up when i get one of thoses no7 vouchers things after spending x amount of yo yos in boots.
They really should only be used after copious amounts of alcohol though. There is no other excuse for using them!

  • Rachelle says:

sorry dolly, using them for the gym i’d say is also very acceptable!

The Boots cucumber ones are pretty good. 2 for the price of 1 and they fly off the shelves. But I have to be pretty tired to use them, as they’re just never as good as using a proper cleanser. You always feel like there’s a spot they’ve missed!

I use the boots skin kindly ones, which I find are quite good. They’re in a sort of purple frosted looking package. they’re meant for sensitive skin and I’ve used so called ‘sensitive skin’ wipes before but these are the first ones that don’t make me feel like I’ve ripped off a layer of skin along with my make-up!

I hate wipes – absolutely hate them… they’re horrible and I just don’t think any of them are good. My mum and sisters use them tho and they like them. Any time I’ve tried using them I either get a rash or breakout and I wouldn’t have particularly sensitive skin either… I’d prefer to leave my makeup on at night time than use these… Pissed or not!!

Ro – yep, in general they’re a fast fix for me and not something I use a lot, because i notice that if I do use them over a weekend or something that my skin gets extremely congested.

So which ones will we put into our Oxygn Survival Guide?

  • Admin says:

    Just don’t go to Oxygen!

  • Admin says:

actually I must do a festival survival guide – what with having been to about 45,000 of them in my time.
