Snake-charmers, elaborately painted beauties and Cirque De Soleil-style dancers were all on hand at Dublin's LA Make Up Academy on Tuesday night to celebrate the launch of the Irish Federation of Makeup Artistry, a body that aims to be a representative organisation for the profession of make up artists in this country.
While it's a great thing if you're working in the industry, it's even better for those of us who struggle to find a good makeup artist for a wedding, a big event or party, as a core part of what the IFMA will do is to raise the status of make up artistry as a profession in Ireland, and to promote professional standards of service within the profession. In addition, they're seeking to bring in a standardised system of make up training here, also a great move.

That all spells a commitment to quality, and from a consumer point of view - i.e. us - that can only be something to be very much welcomed. We look forward to seeing - and blogging about - the fruits of their labours.
