Sartorially speaking, this weather has thrown us.
See, I am writing this in a pair of jeans that I suspect will have to be surgically removed from me later this evening. The heat (it's supposed to be 20 degrees tonight people) has caused the skin on my thigh to fuse with the denim, creating a fabric that I like to refer to skenim.
Should I have worn a skirt or a dress to work today? Yes. Did I? No. Why? At 7am I am lucky if I don't leave the house in my pyjamas.
But I'm not alone in this overdressing madness.
Exhibit A - it was around 30 degrees in London yesterday, and yet Jessie J chose to encase herself in what appears to be leather dungarees. And while she seems grand, I'd have several rivers of sweat gathering around the baggy knees.
Picture it - would you ever throw open the curtains, see the sun splitting the stones and think "Yep, today is the day to break out the leather dungarees."
Our eyeballs are sweating just looking at them.
Which reminded me of another outfit that made me feel like having a cold shower, and not in the good way.
Florence Welch's (look I have to use the word because it just suits her gúna) rig-out that she wore to last year's Royal Academy Summer Exhibition is a rich velvet number. Now, we all remember how hot last July was, and ankle length moss green velvet is more October wear. I don't know why but in the sunshine, this dress makes one want to scratch oneself.
Cynthia Rowley wore this to the CFDA Awards last year.
I had a top made of this stuff in the 90s and used to wear it clubbing. I'm not proud. And I'm less proud that I have to confess that I only wore it twice as both nights I went home STAAAANKING on account of the material.
The fact that Rowley is a designer herself just somehow makes things a bit worse... On the upside, really love her shoes and the bag is adorable.
It's a total cop out including Lady GaGa here, but it's one of her more sedate outfits (mouse ears aside). Still, the mere thought of sporting it in August, like she did last year, makes me feel a bit on the faint side (and the gusset area is not helping).
Finally, we have Nicola Roberts back in 2011 hauling around a 'House of Holland' number, which appears to have been inspired by 'Flight of the Conchord'-ee Jemaine St Clement's bed blanket. It's cute, and colourful, but perhaps more at home in December than June.
So tell us, what are you sporting in the heat? Have you fallen foul of the jeans/leather dungarees/woolly tights? Share your schweaty tales with us in the comments!
