Sherbert Dip Dab Anyone? Get the Candy Look for Under €40

Summer is always a light colour. What I mean is, pastels come out to play around this time of year and when the sun shines for the two week exam period, it's time to rock some candy.

Sweet shades are not always easy to wear; they can wash out most skin tones, and on occasion can look a bit too girlie. So we need to strike a balance on a trend that we can only realistically wear for two or so months of the year. We need to invest carefully, and not break the budget. So I've done some digging and if you like the softer shades, I've a nice pretty edit of the best bits under €40.

There are a few colours to look at for 2015: candy and strawberry pink, baby blue, peppermint, light coral and lemon which have been the most popular choice from the high street shops.

From top left: Pink top, €36, Oasis; bag, €24.99, New Look; Coral blazer, €39, iclothing.com; Quilted pink skirt, €37, River Island; Blue shirt, €35, Warehouse; Yellow lace top, €35, River Island From top left: Pink top, €36, Oasis; bag, €24.99, New Look; Coral blazer, €39, iclothing.com; Quilted pink skirt, €37, River Island; Blue shirt, €35, Warehouse; Yellow lace top, €35, River Island

I think tops are the best investment, and that extends to t-shirts, blouses, summer casual tops, which can be styled with lots of darker shades. This makes the whole pastel/candy thing a lot more wearable when it's not sunny and let's face it, that's quite a lot.

The most prudent buy is a blazer; wear with a printed top and some skinny jeans, or plain trousers make it work, for work. I love a coral jacket at the moment with a pretty floral print (coral is also a lovely complement to navy by the way). Speaking of work, swap out the white one for a dusky or baby blue; and wear under a white blazer and get two summer trends all in one!

As for pink, well you have an array of shades to choose from. Pink is a nice transitional colour too, so you can style it up for the winter (fashion must think ahead!) with nice knits and coats. But for now, match up with neutral tones. I adore cream and pink, it reminds me of strawberry ice cream by the sea - see the crop top from River Island above which actually isn't as short as it looks. With some high waisted trousers, it should sit just at the belt line.

So is the sherbert look for you? Or is candyfloss just not sweet enough for your closet?
