We all know that the trench coat is a wardrobe staple. If you want to ward off the elements without being engulfed in a casual parka or stuffy wool number, this is the outerwear for you.
A trench is the handiest type of coat for this time of year. It suits all occasions and instantly makes your outfit look chic. In the same way a Chanel handbag is the handbag of handbags; a Burberry trench is the top of the coat crop.
We won't be splashing out on a Burberry anytime soon, but that's ok. At this time of year, there are more trench coats in the shops than there are umbrellas. It might not be a classic you'll pass down to your kids, but the beauty of the high street is that you can experiment. The classic trench is beige, but navy and berry colours are also popular. However, this year there's a new shade in store, and you might not have expected it.
The coat colour of the season is blush pink. It's not actually that far off beige, but it is a little unexpected, and it's feminine, without being overly 'girly'. This gorgeous version is from River Island and costs €80.
