Two Saturdays ago in Dublin, we had one of the most glorious days of the year so far. A week later, we had one of the most miserable.
The daffodils are already dying which means that spring has most definitely sprung, and it's doing that thing it does to Ireland every year: one minute it's warm, the next it's, well, not. And yeah, it's difficult to choose what to wear. However, I've noticed an under-the-radar trend that may help solve this dilemma.
If you bought culottes last summer thinking that they'd last only that one season, I hope you didn't wear them to shreds because they haven't gone away. In fact, I think they'll make an even bigger impression this year. Wide cropped trousers or culottes are the easiest ways to balance between cold and warm temperatures. Even if it's coat weather, which we all know is a big possibility in April, your just below the knee pants will stop it from looking like you're a tourist who heard it's always winter in Ireland. Like, it is, but when you live here, you can take it.
If your culottes are more ankle length than anything else, they are probably best worn with heels. In proper summer, wear with sandals or espadrilles.
You don't have to look to the back of your wardrobe for last year's threads; wide legged three-quarter length trousers are all over the shops. Here are three of our picks.
