The midi ring is dead, long live the mani ring!
This summer’s accessory, the midi ring was worn high, between the top two joints of the finger. This new trend of the mani ring or fingernail ring, is worn around the nail. It’s like a little hat for your finger. Without putting you off, it’s surely what Jackie Healy Rae would wear if he had a ring fetish.
Its evolution was inevitable. We started with stick on nails and then moved on to painting our nails with polishes that imitated anything from feathers to leathers, from sand to caviar. In mathematical terms, this ring occupies the space where the Venn diagram of nail art and jewellery intersect.
Beyoncé was, as always, way ahead of the trend. She sported a $36,000 reptile inspired mani ring in her Sweet Dreams video. And she has continued rocking the trend during her recent world tour.
Bey’s version looks fierce and is a strong standalone look. These fingernail adornments range from a single, gold option that would look great on a rock chick nail to ridiculous, full on sequin talons that would look great at Halloween if you were dressing as a very camp warlock.

Claire’s Accessories and Asos have been stocking them from €3.50 and eBay has dozens of options.
The jury is still out on these. Some think that this trend is as stupid, and will be as short lived, as the craze for temporary tattoos for your cuticles. But to be fair, this nail bling is handy for hiding a broken nail or chipped polish or just to give some edge to an outfit. Just be careful scratching your eye and touching the screen on your phone....
What do you think of these false metallic nails? Would you give them a go or would you rather use them to clean the grout in the shower?
