It came without warning, but suddenly we had a new It Bag. And it was made of straw (or some synthetic material resembling straw). The basket bag was heralded as that one accessory that would transform you into a Parisian model who doesn't worry about her purse being stolen because her bag has no zip.
That's the point of the basket bag, though. It's meant for jaunts in a charming rural village everyone waves to you as you flit by on your High Nelly, clad head to toe in Rouje. But, if you have your wits about you, you can bring yours out and about to less idyllic environments; we're going to.
The basket bag is not season sensitive - it's always a handy carry-all for the beach and summer picnics - and the best thing about it is that high street versions tend to be just as good as top-range.
