When the weather is this unpredictable, you need a couple of chic rain jackets at your disposal
My Junior Cert Geography teacher would try to convince us that there's no such thing as 'bad weather'. All that rain we get means that Ireland is so green and gorgeous and a lot of crops can grow or whatever. But fifteen-year-olds living in the West of Ireland would not accept that everyday rain (as in, it rained every single day) is a positive thing. Not when we wanted to wear those huge long flares that skimmed the footpath. And, back in those days, the only teenagers who wore raincoats were, unfortunately for them, not in the cool gang.
Now, we live in a more accepting time, where nerds are the (kinda) cool ones who are destined for Silicon Valley greatness. Rain jackets are not fashion items non grata anymore, either, which is good news, full stop.
I have one of those jackets that you can roll up and stick in a little bag, bought in Penneys I'd say about ten years ago. (I never cared if rain jackets were in style or not, I just wanted to stay semi-dry.) It's fully smelling like much-used festival tent by now, though, so I'm in the market for a new one. Luckily, the high street is full of fashion raincoats that won't look out of place in a festival field or a fancy bar.
New Look has loads of them right now, and it's hard to choose a favourite. I've selected two good ones.
