One of the best nuggets of fashion advice I ever read was if in fashion doubt, wear head to toe red. If you turn up to work or brunch or anywhere really wearing all red, people will automatically see you as stylish. It's just the way the world works.
If you haven't got even a flake of red in your wardrobe (those Halloween devil horns most certainly do not count), now's the time to stock up because red is one of the key trends of a/w 17. And by red, I mean red anything. Pants. T-shirts. Dresses. Scarves. And, of course, coats.
A scarlet or ruby or garnet coloured coat is a must-have in anyone's wardrobe whether it's 'in' or not. People tend to choose dark colours for winter coats because that's where their mood is, I guess. But a red coat will instantly pick you up, and you'll be more easily found if you get lost in a snow storm.
