Apparently Westport is the spa capital of Ireland. I have fond memories of the place - on a weekend trip there in my early twenties, my friends and I entered a local hostelry and enquired as to what the soup of the day might be. "oh", said the man behind the bar, "we have yellow soup, and we have brown soup". I think I had the yellow - brown was just too horrible to contemplate.
Actually, I think Westport is a lovely place. It's one of Ireland's few planned towns and is very pretty, sitting beneath Croagh Patrick and right on our beautiful West coast. It's a great weekend destination, and the restaurants are excellent too. So the Westport Wellness Week, which runs for four days from February 26th to March the 1st sounds like it'd make a perfect mini-break.
There's loads on - you can join in "for some interesting talks and activites to help improve your health and wellbeing" and if you're not into listening, you can "indulge yourself in the many wonderful spas and leisure centres dotted around the town". I like the sound of that bit.
