A group of teenage students have come up with a new condom design that will change colour and glow depending on the infection that it detects.
Muaz Nawaz, Daanyaal Ali, and Chirag Shah are 13 & 14-year-old students that attend London’s Isaac Newton Academy, and they have designed a new type of condom that will change colour based on what bacteria is detected that is linked to an STI.
Speaking to The Daily Mail, the students said that it could glow green for chlamydia, yellow for herpes, purple for human papillomavirus, or blue for syphilis, and that they got the idea because they wanted to make "detecting harmful STIs safer than ever before so that people can take immediate action in the privacy of their own homes without the invasive procedures at the doctors".

The three boys have won a prize of £1,000 in value and will get a trip to Buckingham Palace to receive an award for their innovation. However, they were keen to point out that this is clearly still in the design stage and a long way off large scale production yet.
