Top 10 Songs of 2015 According to Entertainment.ie

If we're being completely honest, 2015 has been more of a 'songs' year than an 'albums' year, with a few notable exceptions, of course.

For that reason, we've rounded up ten of the biggest and best songs of 2015 for your listening pleasure. And if you disagree with any of our choices, do feel free to let us know where we've gone wrong…

10. The Academic - Different

This super-catchy little number came straight out of Mullingar, proving that the Midlands town is not all Joe Dolan and Niall-bloody-Horan. Watch 'em fly in 2016.

9. Fleur East - Sax

Who woulda thought that an X Factor runner-up would pull it out of the bag in such an impressive way? This song (and her debut album) is packed with fizzy, sassy, frivolous energy - all you want in a pop song.

8. Naughty Boy featuring Beyoncé & Arrow Benjamin - Runnin' (Lose It All)

Zayn who? Naughty Boy may have fallen out with his one-time 1D mate in 2015, but he also got one of the world's biggest pop stars on board for a vibrant, stealthy single.

7. Taylor Swift featuring Kendrick Lamar - Bad Blood

Yeah, we know that 1989 came out in 2014, but this song - one of the album's finest - was released as a single in 2015. We much prefer this punchy, rocky T-Swift to the ballad-singing one.

6. Major Lazer & DJ Snake featuring MØ - Lean On

There was no escaping this song this year, but in fairness it's one of those irritatingly niggly tunes that gets into your brain and just refuses to leave - largely thanks to the performance by Danish electropop singer MØ.

5. Years & Years - King

Years & Years had a bit of a whiff of flavour of the month off them when they broke through in 2015, and to be quite frank, the album's not quite up to scratch. This song, however, is simply a great tune, with its soaring, anthemic chorus and a lot of clubby dynamism packed into four minutes.

4. All Tvvins - Too Young to Live

This Dublin duo is another act to keep a close eye on in 2016, because once they release their album, they're gonna go big. Considering the quality of the singles they released in 2015, you can expect a collection of funky, swarthy electropop-rock along these lines.

3. Drake - Hotline Bling

Oh, Drake. We're not sure what to make of you 99% of the time, but we do know this: you released a banger of a tune in 2015, even if your dad-dancing in its accompanying video threatened to overshadow it.

2. Jess Glynne - Hold My Hand

We knew Jess Glynne's album was going to be good - but we're not sure why more people aren't factoring it into their year-end lists. In any case, this track, in particular, is simply a great, great pop song that harks back to the 1990s with a contemporary 2015 twist - and what. a. voice.

1. The Weeknd - Can't Feel My Face

It was a tough decision to rank our numbe… nah. It wasn't tough at all. Abel Tesfaye's biggest hit to date packs the funkiness of Prince, finger-clicking soul and slouchy electro into one brilliant sub-four-minute tune. We'll even forgive the silly hairdo.

Whatcha think? Whatcha think? Is this the definitive list of the best songs of the year? Is there anything you would add? Anything you would throw away into the bin of 2015?
