We all love Instagram, but sometimes a quick scroll through your feed can knock your self-confidence. Here's a very easy way to make your Instagram experience more positive and enjoyable.
Instagram is full of people sharing photos of the best aspects of themselves and their lives, making them appear perfect.
If you follow a lot of celebrities, models, singers and influencers online, they have more than likely tailored their accounts to perfection, making sure every single detail of a post is perfect.
Seeing posts like this day after day will naturally make many of us start to compare ourselves to these people. Over time this can have a negative effect on our self-confidence as we wonder why we don't look like that.
It's important to remember that many of these images have been edited and even photoshopped.
Famous people have teams of people around them to help them look their best at all times, so when you think about it, comparing yourself to these images is very unfair on yourself.
The unfollow button is your new best friend
The easiest way to make Instagram a more enjoyable platform is to only follow accounts that make you feel good about yourself.
Go through everyone you follow on Instagram and if an account makes you feel bad about yourself, unfollow it. Don't overthink it - just go on your first instinct.
Once you've done that, it's time to go and follow accounts that do make you feel good. Follow people that aren't afraid to be themselves, who post positive and real things and who make you laugh.

Some of my favourite people on Instagram are:
Jonathan Van Ness from Queer Eye is such a funny & inspiring person, who is unapologetically himself.
Tar Mar is an Irish gal based in New York who has an incredible style and is very real and relatable.
Brian Bilston is a poet, whose poems can be incredibly thought-provoking or just hilarious, it definitely brightens my day when I see poems like this on my feed.
So there you have it, being more selective of who you follow on Instagram is a great way to boost your confidence.

I've been doing this for about a year now and my Instagram experience is so much nicer for it, I leave feeling happy or inspired rather than sad and self-conscious.
