Let’s be honest, we all have our favourite bra. The one that when we do have to peel it off our back and wash it, we just don’t have another quite like it.

I get it, I’m still wearing breastfeeding and maternity bras and my youngest is almost 2.
But how often really should you be washing even your most loved bra?
Bras can be quite easily forgotten, along with bed clothes and although experts say you don’t have to wash them every day you should wash them regularly.
How regularly?
It depends. If you have 3-5 bras on rotation you can get away with washing them about once a month otherwise about every 7-10days is a rough guide.

If you are wearing the same 2/3 in rotation it is best to wash them weekly with a break every other day with each bra.
Sports bras it goes without saying you should wash after every wear.
What about expensive bras?
If you have spent quite a bit on a good quality bra it is recommended not too over wash it, wash it on 40 for hygiene reasons and always wash it in a linen bag in your wash if washing with other clothes.
Another factor to take into consideration is the type of bra you are wearing.
If you’re wearing a bra with an underwire that is tight to your skin underneath the breast, then it may have a higher risk of being contaminated with dirt and bacteria.

If you are wearing a soft cup bra it is more likely that it won’t be as full of dirt, bacteria or dead skin cells.
