CBS presenter, Julie Chen revealed that she had 'fixed' her Asian eyes with surgery.
Julie had an absolute peach of a boss early on in her career who told her she'd never be an anchor because she was Chinese. This prince among men also told her that her eyes made her look 'bored'. So Julie had surgery and her career has gone from strength to strength ever since - she presents Big Brother in the US.
Chen had a procedure called blepharoplasty which creates double-creased eyelids, a feature around 50% of Asians are not born with.
Now personally I'd be WAY too chicken for the scalpel, I nearly passed out just HEARING about laser eye surgery. But in general I say if you want to change something go for it. When it's done well you can't even really tell.
But the idea that eyelids could hold your career back is just so weird and creepy to me. I mean, EYELIDS! Can eyelids be make or break? And would Chen have been less successful without the surgery?

Its a pretty dramatic change. Are you sure it was just the eyes Julie? Chen says her goal in having the surgery wasn't to look less Chinese:
The goal was to simply have bigger eyes so the camera didn't make me look sleepy, bored, angry or disinterested in my interviews. The goal was to look, in my opinion, more alert and more interested on camera for my work/career.
Fair enough! Who wouldn't like to look more alert and interested?
So what do you think? Was Julie right to get the surgery? And would you go under the knife to help your career?
