Beauty through Ayurveda? Why not give it a go

You probably know that Ayurvda tells us that everyone falls into three categories or doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

You might know your type already - so you've a head start. Once you know your dosha you can apparently find out more than your health problems and personality type. You could also treat beauty problems. Apparently. The three doshas with their associated beauty problems are described below. See which one you think you are before you do the quiz.

And to speed up the process I've also thrown in a few recommendations. Because lets face it: the beauty industry has advanced a bit since these rules were wrote. But you can find ranges that have the ingredients that suit your dosha - so I've included them. I'm so helpful!

1. Vata: You've got skin with a tendency to dryness. You might suffer from chapped lips, brittle nails and possibly dandruff. You have dark circles under your eyes - even though you've had your eight hours.
Arurveda recommends: citrus and ginger.
I recommend: Check out the Origins range. Lots of moistuiser, cream cleansers and lip balm. Loads of water for the dark circles.

2. Pitta: You're the sensitive type. Your skin is easily irritated - you're allergic to nearly everything you put on your face and you have a tendency towards rosacea. You'll get crows feet... before your time. Oh dear.
Arurveda recommends: sandalwood, mint and coriander.
I recommend: Try Body Shop products. Sun block, Seavite, La Roche Posay, firming eyecream. And absolutely no red wine.

3. Kapha: Grease monkey. Oily hair and skin complete with blackheads and enlarged pores. The situation eyewise is: puffy
Arurveda recommends: Lavender, eucalyptus and sage.
I recommend: Check out the Bliss range. Dermalogica Double Cleansing, Neutrogena and a regular clay face mask. Cucumber slices for your eyes.

Diagnose yourself by taking this quiz.

Turns out I'm a Vata. Which is actually spot on for the skin type described above.

Hmmm - maybe there's something to this. How did you get on?
