Are you a book lover? Love nothing better than curling up before sleep time and reading just a few more chapters of that book you cannot put down? In fact, sometimes you would prefer to be at home on the sofa with your "must read" instead of that night out?
Well, if your answer is yes, then it's official. We are best friends. I devour books of all kinds. But those of the fashionable variety are my favourites. I sometimes think I should read something disconnected from my working life, but when you love what you do, you can't get enough. A lot of my fashion education has come from non-fiction (and a few fiction ones) which has been the backbone of my fashion acumen.
But realistically, if you love fashion, whether you are a rookie or a well versed expert, then these bibles should be on your hit list.
- Fashion Babylon by Imogen Edward-Jones
The one that sparked as much controversy as it did book sales. Written in the fictitious voice of a designer in the lead up to showcasing a collection, from design to catwalk, what makes this interesting is the underlying stories, all of which are assumed to be true as Edward-Jones consulted anonymous names in the industry to divulge what goes on behind the scenes. I won't spoil the book for you, but any fashionista needs to immerse themselves in this book.
- The Vogue Factor by Kirstie Clements
One of my most recent reads, this autobiography of the former editor of Vogue Australia is an honest insight into life at the world's largest fashion publication. Clements was abruptly ousted from her position in 2012, and shortly followed a book which will educate you as well as correct your presumptions of magazine publishing.
- The Goddess Guide by Gisele Scanlon

- Kate Moss Style by Angela Buttolph
This book examines Kate's iconic style on the catwalks and red carpets and includes contributions from some of the most admirable names in the industry like Marc Jacobs and Manolo Blahnik. I interviewed Angela following its release, and thanks to her for giving me her business card - not only did I re-read the book, I got a job at Grazia Daily too. You never know where things will lead...
- Front Row by Mario Testino
Read this for the imagery if anything else, as Testino photographs some of the most famous names in showbiz and fashion for this coffee table gem. I first found this book in the tiny fashion section of Charlie Byrne's bookshop, Galway and I've treasured it since. The book takes you through a visual adventure behind the scenes, on the front row, down the red carpet and onto the yacht at Cannes. Be inspired by elegance, extravagance and all things sparkly.
