It's very easy to fall into the trap of overindulging during the Christmas period with so much yummy food and drink around. Here are 5 tips to help you keep a more balanced diet over the festive season.
Eat a good breakfast
It's easy to fall into the trap of skipping breakfast or having chocolate for breakfast and then filling up on snacks while you wait for dinner because you're absolutely starving.
Eating a decent, healthy breakfast will set you up for the day and mean that you won't fill up on junk food before Christmas dinner.
Stick with eating three meals a day during the Christmas break and you'll find that you're not reaching for the junk food as much.
Eat before you go out
Before going to an event at Christmas make sure you've eaten a good meal, this will prevent you from filling up on appetisers that although delicious may not be the healthiest.
Also, it's always a good idea to eat a good meal before drinking as it will help prevent the drink from going straight to your head and provide some much-needed energy for the rest of the night.
Drink plenty of water

Everyone knows it's important to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated but it can also help you feel less hungry and of course, will reduce the effects of a hangover.
So if you get a reusable water bottle for Christmas this year you can make full use of it straight away.
Stay active
I think everyone turns into a bit of couch potato over Christmas but it's still important to stay active so try to do at least one short workout or go for one short walk a day.
It will help break up the sometimes long and boring days between Christmas and New Years.
Have smaller portions
The easiest way to overindulge during Christmas is to fill your plate or bowl with food, feel full halfway through but finish it anyway because you would feel guilty leaving it.
Be mindful of your portions and start off smaller, if you're not full you can always go back for more.
