A New Make-Up Love And A New Make-Up Meh: Rimmel Blusher and Barry M Textured Nail Paints

It's been a very mixed bag the last couple of weeks on the new product front, with a couple of great bits becoming firm fixtures in my routine and some turning out to be serious duds.

Of my latest acquisitions, here are the ones that most delighted and disappointed me...

LOVE: Rimmel Lasting Finish Soft Colour Mono Blush in Live Pink, €5.35
This bargaintastic rose gold blusher looks super saturated in the pan and while it's not quite so shocking once applied, the colour payoff really is excellent.

It's a cheek-poppingly bright pink shot through with a golden iridescence that puts me in mind of things like NARS Orgasm and Deep Throat, but Live Pink is actually more pigmented than either. It doesn't feel at all chalky or sandy on my skin, lasts brilliantly, and gives me a suits-me-perfectly hit of colour that somehow brings out the green in my eyes and makes me look more wide awake than any others.

I think you'll best understand how much I like it if I tell you that I've stopped using all my other blushers (there were, ehem, six in daily rotation) in favour of Rimmel Live Pink.

Yeah. Exactly.

LEAVE! Barry M Textured Nail Paints, €5.95
I bought all four Barry M Textured Nail Paint shades in a giddy fit of new release madness when I spied them on offer in Superdrug last week. Still, my reasoning was flawless – I don't have any other polishes that give a finish like these, guv'nor – and I promptly set about painting my nails with Ridley Road, pictured above.

It took three thin coats to achieve full opacity, and about five minutes after I was finished, I promptly set about taking it right back off again. The mint green colour was lovely but while the kinda sorta matte textured finish is their unique selling point, it turns out I can't get along with the gritty texture. The particles in the polish meant was difficult to apply evenly across each nail, and I thought the finish just looked untidy, especially along the free edge. I didn't much like the rough feel of it, either.

Oh well. At least it was easy to remove.

Have you tried either of these? What new products are you loving (or leaving) at the moment?
