YSL Youth Liberator Foundation: Does It Actually Work As An Anti-Ageing Foundation?

This new foundation offering from YSL has me a little confused. On the one hand, I'm not very interested in foundations that contain skincare - I have skincare for that. On the other had YSL's Teint Touche Éclat foundation is well up there with my all time favourites, so I had high expectations for  Youth Liberator.

It isn't what I expected. The fact that it is a serum foundation (it contains YSL's Youth Liberator serum) along with its name implies that this is an anti-aging product and would thus be great for drier or mature skin types. Not so, though.
Unlike Le Teint Touche Éclat's beautifully dewy finish, this foundation has more of a satin finish. It is pleasingly light-reflective, but without some serious moisturiser underneath, it will sit in fine lines and dry patches. Indeed, I'd say that it is more appropriate for an oily skin type.
It is also not that easy to apply - it is rather thick in consistency and requires a lot of patient buffing to achieve a really smooth finish. The coverage is buildable, but I still find it surprisingly sheer - this is definitely not the foundation for you if you feel that you need a lot of coverage. It isn't particularly easy to build either - I find it rather difficult to work with and I've tried applying it every which way; with fingers and various types of brushes.

Comparisons to its beautiful and innovative sister foundation, Le Teint Touche Éclat, were always going to be inevitable. Youth Liberator just doesn't compete. I tested both of these foundations out on mature skin and young, dry skin (as well as my own oily skin), and the Touche Éclat won hands down.
The shade range for the Youth Liberator foundation is much narrower AND at €42, it's a full €6 more expensive than Touche Éclat, which may be down to the incorporated skincare, but still doesn't make sense in an inferior formulation.
The bottom line is that you can achieve a nice finish with this foundation. It's not easy to do though, and I think that this product is marketed at the wrong demographic. It is nice, but I can see that it wouldn't work for a lot of skin types and I'm underwhelmed.

Perhaps I'm just not 'getting' this foundation. Have you tried it? And have you had different results with it?
