Serum's have become hugely popular in skincare recently but do you know what they are?
Skincare can get very confusing with so many different steps and products it's hard to know what to use.
Serum's have become hugely popular in the last few years so here is everything you need to know about them and what they can do for your skin:
What is serum?
A serum is a skincare product that's applied after cleansing but before moisturising.
They are designed with potent ingredients which allow the serum to penetrate deeply into the skin and target any skin concerns you may have.
Serums are usually water-based however due to the growing face oil trend oil-based serums are also available now.
Unlike water-based serums, oil-based serums should always be used after moisturiser as they act more like a shield and keep the top layer of skin hydrated.
How often a serum is used will vary depending on the product so make sure to check the label before use.

Generally, serums are used once a day as part of your evening skincare routine.
What serum is best for your skin type?
If you have acne-prone skin you should look for serums with ingredients such as vitamin C, salicylic acid and retinol.
For dry skin look for serums with ingredients such as glycolic acid, hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and niacinamide.
Those with dull complexions should look for serums with ingredients such as ferulic acid and green tea extract.
It's hugely important to note that less is definitely more when it comes to serums as they contain strong ingredients you should only use small amounts.
To be safe, patch test the product first before using all over the face to prevent irritation.
