Top Product Picks for a Shine Free Base

Dewy skin never goes out of style but shiny skin is another story completely as anyone who suffers from an oily complexion will no doubt know. Most of us have some horror story about using anti-shine products that claim to leave skin feeling “matte yet comforted”, when in fact the result was more like a drywall mask you couldn’t wait to start chipping off come evening time.

Having tried and tested many products over the years, the good news is there are definitely some that do as they say on the tin, so here are my top picks for products that are brilliant when it comes to keeping shine at bay.

Matte primer Collage

Estee Lauder Matte Perfecting Primer: With a lightweight gel texture, this leaves skin feeling really fresh whilst working to keep oiliness at bay and make-up in place whether you decide to go for a light coverage tinted moisturiser or foundation. (€32)

Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Foundation: For a flawless, yet natural complexion this foundation is hard to top, it contains Perlite and Silica – two of the most effective oil absorbing ingredients as well as patented polymers to leave skin feeling comforted rather than tight through out the day. (€37.50)

Laura Mercier Eye Basics: These eyelid primers come in a variety of shades and camouflage eye imperfections wonderfully. They can be used as an eye shadow base or just on their own and even after a full day’s wear there’s no creasing or smudging when it comes to liner, eye shadow or mascara. (€29)

NYX Shine Killer: A dupe for Smashbox's cult classic, original formula Photo Finish primer - this clear silicone gel is one that I use a lot when working on TV campaigns as it always applies smoothly leaving a velvety base to work with that stays shine free for hours (€15.99)

MAC Blot Powder: Designed specifically for oily areas of the face this powder is an absolute must for anyone who battles with their t-zone throughout the day. The shades it comes in are subtle, so in general I find that they don’t change the colour of foundation which is always good to know. Just a little touch of this will suck up excess oil without feeling like you're covered in powder, yippee! (€26)

Shiseido Pureness Oil Control Blotting Sheets: Not technically a make-up product in the same way a foundation or primer would be, but very useful none the less, avoid make-up from becoming patchy by touching up through the day with these for a complexion that feels and looks fresh as a daisy. (€23 for 100 sheets)
