I actually screamed a little when I opened the parcel containing samples of Guerlain's spring summer collection, because it is ALL JUST SO VERY GORGEOUS.
Yes. Even MORE gorgeous than Christmas. More delightful than the Slavic Beauty and Exotic Paradise collections. So pretty, in fact, THAT IT HAS ME TYPING IN CAPS.
Things are either extremely good and/or bad when I type in caps. You generally wouldn't like me when I type in caps. Except this time, I am just as giddy as a goat. Really, I am a bit of an old jaded cynic at this point and it's a rare jiffy bag that promotes much super-excitement, but it relieves me to know that my cold dead heart can still be moved by a particularly pretty beauty collection. Phew.
A case in point is the Blush Eclat in Cherry Blossom, €43, above. It's g-g-g-gorgeous. Embossed, embellished and subtly sparkled, this is what caused me to squeak when I opened it. Delicious. But I'm not sure I'll be able to bring myself to actually use it.
Want to see a couple more? Well then, they're after the cut.

This is the Ombre Eclat 4 Shades compact and this season's incarnation is jeu d'Ombrelles, €51. Like the blush, it's extraordinarily pretty and because the top right hand shadow on my sample had shattered a little, I got a good try of the pigment without smushing off the design - it was good, which can be a complaint sometimes with Guerlain shadows. As an aside, I'm currently using an Ombre Eclat Duo & Liner in Nuit a lot at the moment and it is possibly the best thing I've ever used for smokey eyes. Oh, I should really blog about it, shouldn't I?
The palette above is designed for day-to-night wear, so you've got two paler colours and then two dramatic night-time darks for a bit of the old vamping it up. And sure we like a bit of that.
Every collection's got one and I always like to see what the brand will do with their Meteorites offerings. Cherry Blossom features a Voyage collectible compact in Mythic which is a hefty price at €143 but it is refillable, well designed and constructed and exactly the sort of thing that would be great to get as a present.
A new formula debuts with this collection: developed to highlight while subtly mattifying, you'll get that pearly glow Meteorites is so good at delivering, while tamping down a bit of shine.
New for 2010 are also a couple of new and fancy Rouge G de Guerlain lipsticks, which are more like a triumph of architectural engineering than a lipstick, but handily mange to do both excellently, and a new incarnation of Insolence fragrance. Blooming Edition features the same pretty decals you see above on the eye and face compacts and looks very sweet altogether.
