While some people are a bit dubious about using face oils, they know that body oils can make for very effective moisturisers. There’s a perception thought that they’re messy or take ages to absorb but the new generation oils are very easy to use.
If you worried about absorption time, look for a dry oil but really, most oils don’t take that long to sink in and the results are great. Here are four good ones to try.
- L'Occitane Body & Hair Fabulous Oil (€34)
I love L'Occitane's shea butter range. The products are extremely effective and smell delicious. This multi-use oil is 5% shea oil and also contains rare plant oils (baobab and desert date palm) to help moisturise and protect skin and hair. It's a spray oil, which makes application easy and mess free and it feels like butter on the skin. My only quibble would be that it's a little too fragranced but it's a lovely product.
- Neom Great Day Body Oil (€38)
Armoatheaputic wellbeing brand NEOM does the best candles, and some gorgeous body oils too. The blends are designed to promote specific responses; from reviving to relaxing. The brand recently underwent a branding refresh and the new packaging is pretty irresistible. The body oils are packed with vitamin A and E rich organic safflower and jojoba as well as high levels of essential oils. The aromas are incredible and skin is left smooth and soft.

- Kiehl's Superbly Restorative Argan Body Cleansing Oil (€42)
I wasn't too sure about this one when I first tried it. It's quite a watery consistency so you need to keep your wits about you when pouring it out but it works so well. It's a dry oil so absorbs in really quickly and can be used on hair too.
- One Therapy €48
This lovely oil, from an Irish skincare company, has a jojoba base - it works best if you warm a little in your hands before applying. There's frankincense, ylang ylang and sandalwood to calm and encourage a sense of wellbeing. I’m not sure it has that effect on me but as a hydrating body oil, that sinks into skin, it’s very good indeed! Available from onetherapyskincare.com.
