Rate it: tipping the hairdresser

Principessa's got a good question for us all. And it's on the thorny auld issue of tipping in the hairdresser.

She admits "I find it a minefield." It's simple enough in a small salon, one person tends to do the lot, washing, colouring, styling etc, so you tip them. But in the bigger salons who do you tip? The shampoo girl AND the colourist AND the stylist?
And how much do you tip? Principessa has another point:

With the cost of cut, colour etc, do people feel they should give 10% or is that just way too much. A number of women I know have said they've stopped tipping altogether, because it just makes the experience way too expensive."
