Bit of an unusual summer collection from Nubar, this: where Bourjois and Chanel have gone candy toned with brights and pastels, Nubar's delved back to past seasons with a construction-coloured edit of four shades that are pretty sedate. The pix didn't blow me away and it wasn't until a couple of the polishes arrived in the post from the brand that the Finest Silk Collection managed to pique my interest.
True, not everyone's going to go for yellow and acid greens for their digits just cos it's summer - especially if they happen to a) not like 'em and b) work somewhere conservative and c) not like 'em, and the more Nubar colours I try, the more I find I like this brand. Boy, its cremes are glossy. And glossy is good. Plus, the press shots didn't do the colours any sort of justice at all. I got Charmeuse and Moire to try. So lets check 'em out on my paws, will we?

I thought Charmeuse (the deeper colour) looked absolutely VILE in the bottle but was pleasantly surprised at how nice it looked on my hands - there's quite a lot of pink in it - I'd describe this as a deep salmon shade - and it's really attractive on. Moire's a more bog standard nude, the sort of thing that's a very good basic to have on hand for all sorts of occasions. It's a terrific nude, a really good basic polish to have in your kit.
You're looking at two light coats of each above, they dry quickly, longevity is decent as far as I can tell - my nails are super-splitty so nothing lasts very long but this stuff tends to cling well. Of course Nubar has the all-important three-free creds so you're getting no nasties on your nails. Always good to know.
These cost €10 each and are available now in salons and spas - for one near you, check our stockists page for more information.
