One thing Chanel do brilliantly (apart from their products, of course), is their advertising. It's cinematic in scope, always gorgeously shot and saturated in colour, and if it sometimes feels a bit OTT, well we'll forgive them - it is Chanel, after all.
On TV and cinema screens right now is their new spot for Coco Mademoiselle. Not a new fragrance, we know, but this new ad is bound to bring the spotlight back to the scent and a whole new legion of fans will discover it, I'm pretty sure.
It stars Kiera Knightley, sashaying about in a gorgeous red silk gown, exclusively designed for her, of course. She's accessorised with some of Chanel's fine jewellery, and naturally, Coco Mademoiselle. With a soundtrack by Joss Stone, who's put her lungs to an upbeat oldie by Nat King Cole, the ad is fun, flirty - and it looks beautiful. It's set in Mme Chanel's apartment on the Rue Cambon (which has also given its name to a complimentary Coco Mademoiselle collection released to mark the occasion of the new spot) and it's a spectacular setting - mirrors, lacquer and light reflecting surfaces abound, giving the ad a glossy, expensive and luxurious feel.
