Neon makeup is the bold new trend taking over Instagram. But would you be brave enough to wear it?
Neon makeup is one of the biggest trends on Instagram right now. Think '90s rave meets Rihanna meets hi-viz vests and you're halfway there. But are such bright, bold looks even wearable for anything other than taking selfies? You'd be surprised. A little splash of colour can sometimes lift a whole look. It just all depends on how adventurous you're feeling.
We first started seeing flashes of neon makeup on the SS18 runways in Paris, Milan and New York. From precise flicks to art inspired fluorescent lids to vivid geometric lips. There was an abundance of colour with neon pink, orange, yellow and green all proving popular.
Designers such as Sonia Rykiel and Gucci chose to focus on lips. At Maison Margiela, Pat McGrath created a unique heart-shaped geometric lip using a bright pink.

At the Chromat show in New York, a bright orange was placed on the inner corners of eyes. It's an effective look, and could work on the weekends but perhaps not one you'd necessarily wear to a meeting on a Tuesday morning?
Taking inspiration from the runways, makeup artists on Instagram soon started to create their own variations on the trend. And now neon makeup is everywhere. From glam neon eyes with full lashes to neon lips.
