Our favourite rule in makeup is that there are no rules. A monochromatic makeup look breaks all the traditional rules you may have learned.
It is easy to think that you must wear the colour most opposite to your eye colour to make it pop. This is true. If you want to make the colour of your eye stand out as much as possible, it's best to choose the colour opposite to your eye colour on the colour wheel. For instance, if you have brown eyes, wear blue eyeshadow. If you have green eyes, wear purple-toned eyeshadow. For blue eyes, browns and golds are your best friend. This colour scheme is called a complementary colour scheme and yes, it works. However, there are other options to explore.

Now here's an atypical look for blue eyes but look how they still pop. This is what we call a monochromatic colour scheme. It uses different tints and tones of the same colour. It means that it's ok to wear blues and silvers if you have blue eyes. It's ok to wear greens and yellows if you have green eyes. And brown eyes can still pop wearing boring old browns.
