Max Factor Xperience Weightless Foundation Review + Swatch

Poor auld Max and his Factor. I have hated all over a couple of the brand's products recently - but hey, you can't like 'em all, and it's been my experience that when a reliable brand releases the occasional dud, that's all it is, a blip, and there's always something better round the corner.

And if beauty blogging is anything, then it's free and democratic advice on products that brands can use to improve on their offerings, eh? Anyway, I definitely enjoy liking things better than disliking them so am pleased to report that I think there'll be a lot of fans for the brand's new Xperience Weightless Foundation.  Max Factor has always had a good rep for base and my teenage and college go-to was Lasting Performance, which I used for years as a young'in. Second Skin is one of the recent launches I've liked a lot too.

It looks like Xperience Weightless Foundation, €19.99 (though I paid €15.49 on offer), is going to join the totally deadly club.

This is brilliant. I really didn't expect much, especially after the dud of those all-mouth-and-no-trousers Smoky Eye Effect shadows, but it has met my expectations and it has exceeded them hugely. Oil-free, I didn't think this would be a workable base for me but was determined to try. I've actually bought two now, because my first foray was too light. Yes. Too light. So, excellent news for the super-pale skinned straight off the bat. I initially purchased Light Ivory 40, tried it on, screamed a bit at my undead ways (am totally keeping it for Halloween though), and took it straight off again.

Next time I was in Boots, I bought Raw Silk 45, the second of the six available shades. This is a perfect colour and tone for me, but I was still concerned about the oil-freeness and the fact that I can feel a good bit of silicone (or something like it) in the mix. Both those things speak combo/oily skin to me, and my dry skin prefers something dewier.

However, I've had no worries with this at all. It is lightweight (you can see above it's quite liquid), it does deliver a my-skin-but-better appearance and it wears so well over the course of a day. I loved how it looked when I first applied it, but 100% expected that my face would have disintegrated into cracky, horrible dry fissures by 1pm.

Nope. Not a one.

This doesn't accentuate dryness, it doesn't cause clagging or clinging to dry areas and in fact, it's just very very good indeed. Delivering a slightly moist appearance as opposed to the flat matte of something like Stila One Step, I do think oily gals could give this a punt too, thanks to its oil-free status.

There's not much more to say about this except it ticks a lot of my boxes. There's an SPF10, packaging is also good and you'll be able to squeeze every last drop out, plus it's hygienic, and while it's only in Boots right now, you should be able to get it nationwide in all the usual stockists very shortly.
