Max Factor Eye Brightening Tonal Black Volumising Mascara Review

Three mascaras - each for different coloured eyes.  A mascara for brown, blue and green eyes.

Sound familiar?  Well that's because L'Oreal brought out the very same product yonks back.  Except they did it much better.  The L'Oreal Luminizer Volume Million Lashes were total amazeballs from the packaging right down to the volume and colour.

Now I won't lie to you, as Nessa would say in Gavin and Stacey.  I love those L'Oreal mascaras and the eyeliners that went with them.  So would I love these Max Factor fellas as much?  Bearing in mind that they had two definite things on their side before even entering the ring - firstly they're decidedly cheaper than the L'Oreal offering with an RRP of  €8.99 (but you'll be able to pick them up for half that - I saw them in Boots the other day for €4.50).  Secondly they're from Max Factor who make flippin great mascara.

Usually.

Max Factor say : The formula contains light reflective particles to add a subtle brightening effect, and gem-toned colour beads which customise the reflected light to enrich eye colour. The eye-enhancing formula has a black mascara base that wraps around each lash, working with the legendary Masterpiece ifX brush to give even, clump-free volume and definition.

I say: ah Jaysus Max Factor what happened here?  I am loathe to say these are crap, but honestly?  As I have sludge eyes which are no particular colour, I tried the green eye mascara on the right eye and the blue eye mascara on the left.  There was no discernible "eye brightening" difference at all and I was really disappointed with the finish - these are not volumising mascaras at all and certainly don't live up to the claim of 300% more volume

But you know the way some mascara improves once it's been open a few days?  Strange but true this, we've noticed it before.  So I left it a few days and went back, hoping the situation had improved.

But no.  I'm not feeling it at all for this mascara - if you want tons more volume and a fab finish try one of Max Factors other mascaras instead - the 2000 Calorie range has been recently fabulised (see quick snap above).

So who's been giving Tonal a whirl?  Agree or disagree?
