Makeup setting spray is often considered a must-have by makeup artists. But do you really need one in your everyday life?
Makeup setting spray is something you may, or may not use. Perhaps you've tried them and thought... um, they're... ok. Or on the other side of the coin, love them and wouldn't be without them. Makeup setting spray comes in as many different varieties as makeup brushes, sponges and foundation types these days. If you ask a makeup artist, they'll tell you it's an absolute, must-have in your makeup bag. But is that really true? Do you actually need it?
Today, we're looking at a few different types and asking the big question. Are they worth it?
What it does
Advertised
Makeup setting spray should do, what it says on the tin. However, not all are created equally - as most of you will no doubt know. The overall idea behind setting sprays is that they act as the final step in creating a longer lasting base for your foundation. They can also be used to refresh your base throughout the day too though.
Different types
In the same way that there are different foundations for different skin types, there are also different setting sprays. Some of these are designed to give hydration, others battle shine and oiliness throughout the day.
Are they worth it?
Yes and no. If you're not a fan of powder, then a makeup setting spray is a good alternative. When it comes to hydration, a setting spray can also make a huge amount of difference. Especially if you suffer from dehydration during the day. For oiliness, a setting spray can help when it comes to separation (around the nose), but if we're being perfectly honest - blotting papers are often a better option as they allow your skin to breathe more.

Ultimately, if you're thinking of buying a setting spray, keep an eye out for light formulas and check the ingredients. Heavily perfumed formulas are usually a no-no for sensitive skin too!
