A little shimmer is often beautiful and it doesn't matter how old you are as long as you apply it just right.
Shimmer adds light to your face which can be really flattering in real life and in pictures. It's a pretty addition to eye makeup or to highlight your cheekbones or just to brighten up your overall skintone. I hear so many people say they have too many wrinkles or they are too old to wear shimmer. Can I just say shimmer does not mean glitter; it means adding a texture that will reflect the light ever so slightly in a most flattering way.

You want to make your eyes appear bigger but you feel you have wrinkly eyes
Add a touch of a soft shimmer eyeshadow to the inner corner of your eyeshadow. The secret is not to go too metallic or too white. A shimmery shadow with a buttery texture like MAC Ricepaper would be perfect.
You want to highlight your cheekbones but you have crows feet that highlighter only serves to highlight

You just need to alter the positioning of your highlighter. Unlike most makeup tutorials, you don't have to place highlighter just along your cheekbones and through your crows feet. You can apply just a touch to the smoother area of you face just below your eyes. The general rule is to apply highlighter to high points of your face but this spot beneath your eyes will brighten the whole area and make your eyes appear brighter and more awake.
Choose a highlight colour that is close to skin colour. Some thing that is not too metallic or too pale will be more subtle. If you go for a peach toned highlighter it will blend it with your skin tone and look a little less obvious.

Use a blusher with a highlighter in it
Choose a blusher with a shimmer in it. Usually a shimmery blush will be a little less obvious than an actual highlighter powder. You apply it to the apple of your cheeks which are generally the fullest part of your face and therefore the least wrinkled.
If you really can't get your head around adding shimmer to your skin, add it to your lips. Go for a lipgloss with a shimmer through it. It will make your lips look fuller and smoother by reflecting the light and detracting away from a rough or lined surface.
