Is it mascara silly season or something? Launches left-right-and-centre at the moment. And, now for something completely different - another mascara review!
Firstly, I love the packaging of Maybelline's forthcoming The Colossal Volume Express Mascara, €9.99. It's fat, it's bright yellow, and it's got lovely contrasting purple lettering. I'm all about judging books by their cover, yep.
So what are the claims? 7x more volume is delivered via a mega brush and a collagen formula, apparently. And do the claims become reality? Guess. Go on, guess.

No, is the answer. But I did notice something quite interesting about this product as I used it. The smell. "Where did I smell that before?", I wondered as I brushed product through my lashes. Then I had my eureka moment - it has the exact same honey, beeswaxy smell and conditioning feel as Lancome's new Oscillation mascara. I could easily be wrong about this, but if I'm not, it's not so surprising really, as both brands are owned by L'Oreal. But where Oscillation is everything the Maybelline product claims to be, Colossal Volume just doesn't meet its marketing spec. I wondered why. And I think I know - the motorised Oscillation wand allows the mascara-gunk to be thickly layered on lashes, and the vibrations ensure a clump-free finish.
So by all means, buy Colossal Volume for day - but I'll be sticking with my Lancome wand, and its super-duper cababilities, for night time lashes with masses of impact.
