I love eye make up. I can't leave the house without at least my mascara on; I think it makes your eyes pop.
And another thing I love is a smoky eye, I practice for hours to get the perfect look. Typically, I use brown shades for my eye make up, but over the weekend I thought about using colours to create strong eye, one of which was orange.
Now, the sound of orange eye make up doesn't exactly sound attractive does it? More to the point, I thought it resembled more of a Halloween appropriate look (channeling the pumpkin here) rather than something I could wear to work. But having tried and tested the colour and my mind has been changed.
I have blue eyes, and even in fashion, the blue-orange combination always works thanks to their position on the colour wheel. And the same goes for your face.
There are a couple of tricks to bear in mind when experimenting with colours of the tangerine variety.
Firstly, they need to be blended really well as they are strongly pigmented and you don't want to look like you took the Crayola to your eyes. Secondly, it needs a darker colour to soften it; adding in brown hues to the corners and crease frames your eyes and complements the brighter colour in the centre of your eye. And thirdly, there's no need to for eyeliner with this. Adding in a black line with totally make you ready for trick or treat (see above!).

So how do we get the look? I started with the Urban Decay Vice palette, it has some great orange-based colours. "Toxic" is a good one to start with as it also has a bit of pink mixed in, so great for beginners experimenting with it.
Urban Decay also have a shimmery colour called "Chopper" which works for daytime (the below swash looks a little gold in the light but has a stronger orange hue on the eye).
But my top orange eye shadow is from Buff Make Up, called "Ochre" that can be bought in a single shadow. It's more matte; I found I need a good blending brush to make sure I had an even distribution over my eyes. Then I simply finished off in the corners with a rich brown to frame my eyes and a volumising mascara from Rimmel.
Orange doesn't have to be that scary, you just have to avoid layering the product so it's not cakey, that just adds to the strength of the colour. My tip is to start with a shimmery product that has a lighter texture and see if you can work it into your normal make up routine.
