The state of my barnet recently: bushy, neglected, it was in sore need of a trim. Well, lets be frank - it was in sore need of a strim, the state I'd let it get into.
Off to Tibo in Malahide went I. The only Aveda salon on Dublin's north side, it's a calming, airy space decorated in attractive neutrals. And it's got another very interesting thing going for it: as my head massage and hair wash concluded, I noticed that the company uses disposable towels. Coming on foot of our discussion last week on hygiene in hairdressers, I thought this was a very good omen. Hand-towel sized, the disposables are a bit like very thick baby wipes and they're super-absorbent. Plus, once they're used, in the bin for recycling they go.
Owner Thomas sat me down and gave out to me for my pony-tail habit. Oh dear! I wear my hair back as a matter of course - it's handy, and I hate it in my face. A lot of that is because I have a lot of hair, and tying it back is the easiest solution. But as he correctly pointed out, if it was cut the right way, that wouldn't be an issue. Setting to work, he gave me an above-shoulder-length crop that's really nicely shaped. Longer at the front than the back, he left my long, side-parted fringe mostly intact, but took a lot out of the back, which I'm really liking. No more heavy hair on my neck, it's slightly swingy and oh-so-easy to manage. For once I can literally wash and go.

Loving it - plus he very kindly snipped out all my greys. Hurrah!
