Cleaning your gunky makeup brushes just became a whole lot less of a chore

I'm holding my hand up and admitting it: I hate washing my makeup brushes. I know it's a necessary evil, but it is one chore I often can't bring myself to do. It usually takes reading a horrifying story about the billions of tiny bugs wriggling on them that persuades me to take to the sink.

We have given guides before on how often and how to clean your brushes. It still doesn't make the job pleasurable.

Last weekend, I got a new set of brushes and had time on my hands so instead of catching up on old episodes of Gilmore Girls, I decided to give my brushes a bath.

In the past, my long, drawn out method was to:

Let warm water run straight from the tap
Put some gentle shampoo in the palm of my hands
Run the brush under the tap
Swirl it around in the palm of my hand for hours (it seemed)
Make sure all the gunk is gone, and the water runs clear

This time, I had a secret weapon: the PS...Love This Facial Cleansing Pad from Penneys that cost one frickin' euro.

I had bought it months and months ago but never used it as a facial cleanser. I stumbled across it doing a clear out and decided that it resembled a (very mini) Sigma glove than anything else I had lying around. When I washed my makeup brushes last weekend, I followed the same method but put the pad in the palm of my hand. And it took about a quarter of the time it usually takes me to make sure every last bit of crap is gone.

I couldn't believe how quickly the old makeup disappeared from the brush. It took mere seconds for the brush end to reveal its true colours; for me, it usually takes about five minutes.
