Settling into the taxi, a newly arrived to Dublin Beaut.ie Mammy told the cab driver where she wanted to go.
"Ah yeah, no problem that's up on Aungier Street" says he.
"No, no" said Beaut.ie Mammy. "It's on Aungier Street"
"Jaysus missus, I've never heard of that and I've been a cabbie in this city for ten years."
Why couldn't they understand each other? It was all do to with the simple matter of pronunciation you see. Beaut.ie Mammy had assumed that in Dublin we would pronounce things by their proper french names and asked the cab driver to go to Awn-gee-ay St. The cab driver knew the street by the name Ain-jeer.

Eventually the problem was resolved. Cue much hilarity, the cab driver breaking his ass laughing and a red faced Beaut.ie Mammy.
But it's a problem we face everday with beauty products and people are always asking how to pronounce names.
"I got this gorgeous body lotion for my birthday. But eh, I don't really know how to pronounce it."
