What Is Dry Brushing And What Are The Benefits Of It?

Yes, dry brushing is yet another new beauty trend but this time it's for your body. Here's everything you need to know about it.

What is dry brushing?

Dry brushing is exactly what it sounds like, brushing the body in a particular method on dry skin with a natural fibre brush.  It's usually done before showering.

According to Healthline, it's a type of Ayurvedic medicine that has been around for centuries and has a lot of health benefits.

This, of course, explains why it's become so popular recently.

Here are some of the apparent benefits of dry brushing:

  1. Stimulates lymphatic drainage which helps get rid of toxins from the body.
  2. It's a great exfoliant and many people have said their skin is noticeably softer since starting to dry brush.
  3. Increases blood circulation.
  4. Helps with digestion and to reduce cellulite, however, these benefits have yet to be proven.
  5. Gives you a natural energy boost, this is possibly due to the fact that blood circulation has also increased.

How do you dry brush?

So, now that you know what it is you're probably wondering how to do it. Here's a quick guide to get you started:

Firstly please make sure you use light pressure when brushing, your skin should not sting or be red.

Start at your feet and work up the body.

Use long sweeping motions going towards the heart as this is where the lymphatic system drains.

Brush in clockwise motions on the stomach, knees and armpits.

You can brush each section up to 10 times each but I would say 3-4 times is best.

Where to get dry brushes?
