I have a bit of a soft spot for Clarins, and I don't mind saying so. As a skincare brand, they make so many top notch products. In the past, I think they've suffered unfairly from a slightly dowdy reputation when it comes to their makeup. Yes, back in the day the Clarins counter was probably frequented more by mature women, and it's not a trend-driven colour based brand like Mac or NARS.
For some time now, Clarins has been offering intelligent, comfortable formulations, brilliant makeup bag staples and increasingly lovely packaging. They do have colour to offer, but it's always subtle, clever, and refined. If you normally pass by the Clarins counter when you're shopping for eye shadow or lipstick, then I encourage you to stop and pay attention, because there are always some serious gems sitting there.
There's even more reason to stop and have a good old rummage now, because they've just reformulated their Joli Rouge Moisturising Long Wear Lipsticks. Mango oil keeps your lips feeling comfortable, while the rich, thick formula is beautifully opaque. The shade range is divine - several absolutely spot-on nudes (pictured below) combine with pinks, corals, and one completely divine red shade - there are several reds, but I've photographed my favourite below.
I like the fact that the packaging is 15% lighter - nice for your handbag, and for the environment, and the red berry fragrance is addictive. They don't feather, they don't faff about - they're just great lipsticks that are comfy, longlasting and beautiful. That ticks pretty much all our boxes, to be honest!
