Candy pop for Spring: our pick of the makeup brights for SS12

Apparently Spring is on its way - and it can't come soon enough for me! But although it's still cold and miserable, the new season makeup will cheer us all up. For this evening's Xpose piece we chose a few beautiful luxe brights - these babies aren't cheap but they're gorgeous and enough to put a smile on anyone's face.

Nails - Blue and Green should definitely be seen

The nail shades of this season are definitely aquas. We’re loving them, particularly this pair from Estee Lauder and Dior. Both are available now - the Estee Lauder Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Teal Topaz, €20, is a lovely deep creme shade that’s perfect in two coats.

Dior Vernis in Waterlily, €23, is a shimmer-shot mint green with a twist - it's scented.   Honest injun, paint it on and when it’s dry you can smell roses.  See more from the Dior Garden Party collection.

Of course all the budget brands like Rimmel, Gosh, Essence and Catrice will have great dupes for both of these shades.  (Read more about dupes)

Eyeshadow is bright baby, bright
YSL Ombres 5 Lumieres, €57
Glorious and showstopping: we heart this YSL palette.  The mix of colours is loud we will admit but it’s oh so pretty.  Part of YSL's spring launch Candy Face, which is really fabulous.  See more from the Candy Face collection.

CHEEKS
There are lots of new and innovative cheek products we’re loving this spring and blusher is great because it’s immediately transformative - it fakes good health and wakes up winter pallor.

Dior Rosy Glow blusher, €43
This has some fancy gubbins going on in that it apparently intuitively adjusts to the moisture level of your skin type to give a fresh, customized colour.  Well - we dunno about the science, but we do know it looks really nice on.

Normally that is.

Yes, Kirsteen was a little heavy handed with this wasn't she, the bold brat!  SHE MADE ME LOOK LIKE BOSCO!  I went into town immediately afterward we'd finished doing the camera stuff, took a cab downtown, walked through crowded streets and into a restaurant without realising I had Bosco cheeks.  When I caught sight of myself in a mirror I nearly fainted.  I was bright pink! Read some advice we gave Bosco about his overuse of blusher.

Clarins Instant Light Blush, €23
This is another unusual blusher - it’s a liquid cheek tint and it’s a limited edition in three shades. The best way to use this is not straight from the applicator because as you can see it's a little clumsy.  Put a drop on the back of your hand and then tap onto cheeks with the pads of fingers or use a brush. It gives a lovely glow and the creamy texture gives a lift to makeup - it’s not flat like a powder can be.  See more from the Clarins Colour Breeze collection.
