Benefit Release BADgal Mascara in Brown, Fail To Get Me Worked Up

Maybe I'm the only one to be left cold by Benefit's latest breathless product announcement, but I'm finding it pretty hard to muster much excitement for their "new" mascara. Because, well, it's not a new mascara.

It's BADgal in brown.

Now, BADgal has been around for an age. Initially, it came in black, then waterproof black, followed by a blue and, last year, a plum incarnation. Benefit seem keen to expand the range of colours that BADgirl's available in, which puzzles me for two reasons.

1. With the possible exception of the blue, none of the colours in the line are exactly outta this world wild and crazy. In fact, they're pretty much the kind of everyday colours that most brands with an interest in coloured mascaras would include in an initial release rather than bringing them in piecemeal.

2. I don't find BADgal to be a marvelous mascara. I think it's distinctly whelming, can't hold a curl (and actually seems to make my lashes look even straighter than they really are!) and doesn't do very much in terms of defining and separating and lengthening or any of that stuff you might, not unreasonably, expect from a mascara.

Of course, different strokes for different folks - if you fancy giving it a whirl yourself, you can pick up BADgal brown for $19 from Benefit online, or head for your nearest Benefit counter. And do let us know what you make of it!
