Preaching a message the Little Yellow Book (Gorgeous to Go - out now! €12.99!) is all about - that budget is brilliant and there is absolutely value for money to be had in the cosmetics sector, we've known for a long time that there are some fuppin' brilliant products out there for very good prices. In the last couple of years, there have been ever more fantastic budget buys on offer too, and we've dedicated a whole site section, Beaut.ienomics, to praising them.
Now the trend is being confirmed by an industry source no less illustrious than WWD. I choked on my instant coffee at lunchtime (what, we're in a recession, it's budget, bitches. No more mochachocca frappachinos for moi) as I browsed their Critical Mass article on the site.
"The buzz for spring includes rich colors and improved formulations to satisfy shoppers trading down from prestige," they report, and we say that's amazing news for cash-strapped consumers like us and you, who just can't afford to hand over the same level of disposable fun money we might once have for products. What we buy now has to satisfy the double-whammy of looking good and performing excellently.
WWD aren't pushing a made up buzzy byline with this either - it's true. Hands up: I love luxury beauty but at least half of what I use these days (and bear in mind a lot of what I use as a beauty writer is supplied as press samples so I have a lot of choice) comes from the mass and budget sectors. And that's because these products are quite simply good.

So that's really what Gorgeous to Go is all about - exploding myths, taking a cold hard look at some industry practices they'd rather we didn't know about as well as dishing the down-low on all the great stuff that's actually affordable.
We're delighted that this is now mainstream and that great beauty buys on a budget are now a possibility. Long may it continue.
