Beaut.ie Christmas Nail Art: Tape Trees, Candy Cane Stripes, and Polka Dot Trees

Whether you fancy wearing them as an accent nail or going all-out with a full festive manicure, these designs have Christmas all taped up.

Before you begin, cut up all the strips of Sellotape you'll need and stick one end of them to the corner or your workspace to make life a little easier.

Apply base coat (I used Sally Hansen 4-in-1 Complete Care) and base colour to nails. Allow to dry. Then...

  • Take a thin piece of tape and press it firmly onto the palm of your hand to reduce (but not eliminate) its stickiness. Then apply diagonally across the nail and press into place, taking particular care to ensure that the corners are stuck down at the sides of the nail. Repeat until you have the number of stripes desired.
  • Apply red polish (bear in mind that a cream polish will result in neater edges than glitter.)
  • Leave to dry for about 30 seconds, then briskly peel away tape with smooth movements, working from base to tip of nail and keeping the tape as closely horizontal to the nail as possible.

  • Add any details or embellishments desired – try dotting on baubles and hat trim with a dotting tool/ballpoint pen.

  • Use a dual-ended dotting tool or pair of ballpoint pens to create a triangle of tree-like dots in varying sizes and shades of green. (I got a bit carried away; a less crowded “tree” would look better.)
  • Dot on a “star” in a contrasting colour (or use a cocktail stick to draw one on.)

Whichever design you opt for, seal with a nail art-friendly topcoat like Seche Vite to finish.
